Healthy for the holidays
December 6, 2018
Gingerbread houses, cookie decorating and holiday parties are coming right around the corner as December is here. With this, it becomes very easy to get out of and hand and astray from a healthy diet and eating so, knowing this, I have come up with a couple ways to help you stay on track this holiday season.
1. Stay away from unhealthy foods:
This is one might be the hardest one to do as like I mentioned before, tempting foods are all going to be all around, but here’s the thing, don’t buy sugary foods for your house or to snack on. Instead, go for a piece of fruit or some veggies, because you will get plenty of the unhealthy options at one of the many “Secret Santa” parties this season.
2. Control your portions:
If you’re going to be eating lots of foods, especially those high in carbs, fats and sugars it is best if you stick to small portions of each. This also makes room for that piece of pie, brownie or cake for dessert.
3. Choose the right ingredients:
Instead of using artificial sweeteners and preservatives, try to use ingredients that are naturally sweetened. Also a no on the list is artificial food colorings, which is something that is often used in holiday foods like candy canes, cookies and frostings for example.
4. Stay Active:
With busy schedules it might be difficult for to leave out the time to catch up on your workout routine but I’m saying right here and now, do it! Take the time and take care of yourself. Besides, the more calories you burn in your workout.
5. Drink lots of water:
It’s very easy to get caught up in the holiday festivities and forget to stay hydrated. Drinking lots of water will not only help with maintaining weight and speeding up metabolism but its healthy for the skin and flushes bacteria out of the body.
