This is what a normal day of work looks like for senior Emerie Jones, whose hobby of kicking around a ball and cycling has turned into training jobs and partnerships with fitness companies.
“I have been obsessed with fitness since I could walk,” Jones said. “I have been playing soccer for 15 years now. Through my younger years I tried a bunch of different sports and loved all of them, but soccer was always my number one. I am now heading to play college soccer at Rogers State University in Oklahoma, and I’m so excited to see where that goes for me.”
Many high school students often work in fast-food restaurants or retail stores at the mall, but Jones juggles two athletic jobs at Cyclebar McKinney and iLoveKickboxing.
“Emerie has a different mindset than any other 17 year old I have met,” boss Tori Connors said. “She knows how to push herself, and leave an impact on others. We will be working out together, and she will turn to me and say, ‘don’t let me stop. If I slow down, yell at me to keep going!’ Now that inspiration makes me not want to stop either!”
Seeing Jones every day for morning practices for the past four years, soccer teammate senior Thais Fernandes isn’t surprised by Jones’ accomplishments.
“Emerie on the field is super supportive and she is always encouraging others.” Fernandes said. “I am so proud of her for being an ambassador for Celsius. She is one of the most hard working people I know and she most definitely deserves this.”
Her 16-hour days may sound like a hectic lifestyle to some, but Jones finds comfort in her athletic world.
“I haven’t had the easiest life, but I also haven’t had the worst,” Jones said. “But no matter what, fitness has always been there for me. It’s been my escape my entire life; I don’t know where I would be without it. And having the opportunity to look at fitness as an athlete and as a coach has left me to love it even more.”
Jones has capitalized on her athletic endeavors by working with Celsius, an energy drink company.
“Working with Celsius has been an absolute dream for me,” she said. “I have wanted this since I had my first sip at one of my games. I have always wanted to be part of the “social media ambassador” group of people, but never thought I could do it. I was also always so scared of what people would think of me. But once I finally pushed people’s opinions to the side, I started to gain confidence and started the growth of my account on Instagram.”
Achieving this partnership was not easy, as she had many of social media requirements had to be met.
“I have to thank Cyclebar in many ways for helping grow my account,” she said. “They are super into social media, and it’s part of our job to post about it. I started posting more, and gained more followers. Once I hit around 5,000 followers I started posting about Celsius as a joke, but was low key hoping they would DM me or something and somehow they actually did.”
Once Celsius contacted Jones, she was placed in a pool with other prospective ambassadors. After about two weeks, Jones was notified she would need to gain 2,000 more followers to be given a spot.
“They said they needed to know that I could still grow my account, so I started posting and got posted on the main Cyclebar page,” she said. “That’s when I got about 2,200 more followers. I contacted the head of the ambassador team at Celsius, and they gave me the spot.”
Known for promoting a healthy lifestyle with the use of natural ingredients, Celsius admired Jones’ athletic drive.
“We love how Emerie is so active in the fitness world and embodies the Live Fit lifestyle,” Celsius said.
Now officially part of the Celsius team, Jones gets to see her dreams become her new reality.
“I got my first couple of cases of Celsius 2 weeks after signing my contract,” Jones said. “I have a lot of “rules” I have to follow and posts I have to make now, and they send me a bunch of Celsius and clothes as well as trips and other fun events to go to! I still can’t believe that I get to do this and it all feels like a dream. I don’t think I’ll ever really understand or believe that I actually get to do this.”
