In this week’s edition of Artistic Expressions, Wingspan sits down with junior Neha Lakka as she shares about her passion for playing the violin.

Name: Neha Lakka

Grade: 11th grade

Instrument: Violin

Years: 7th year in orchestra

Future: Baylor University

 

Wingspan: What made you choose to play the violin?

Lakka: “I first saw the beauty of the violin in the fifth grade. Of course, as an elementary student would do, I took up the violin, and have been playing ever since.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite thing to do in orchestra?

Lakka: “I like playing on stage in concerts with my fellow orchestra members. Being in that space, playing together, in front of an audience is just amazing.”

Wingspan: How does orchestra impact your daily life?

Lakka: “It definitely takes up a lot of time when practising, but at the end, it’s definitely worth it to bein the orchestra program”

Wingspan: Are you considering playing the violin beyond high school? Why?

Lakka: “I am considering joining a club or organization outside of college to play alongside other people who share similar talents. I enjoy making music with other people, so I would love to do that in the future. ”

Wingspan: What are your personal goals for this year?

Lakka: “My goals for this year is to definitely practice more and learn more pieces.Academically, getting good grades and a good GPA is very important. Of course, getting a deeper understanding of what I am being taught is crucial as well.”

Wingspan: How do you balance orchestra, school, and any other extracurriculars?

Lakka: “I try to manage my time as best as I can by organizing my schedule into achievable goals. To destress and relax, I spend time with my family and my dog, Jasmine.”

Wingspan: What’s your favorite memory of the orchestra?

Lakka: “My favorite memory is from the Bach-to-School bash from this year. The whole vent was really fun. We did a lot of fun activities such as volleyball, badminton, and a snowball fight too. My favorite part was hanging out with my friends from orchestra. It was really just a whole afternoon of fun.”

Wingspan: What is your advice to anybody thinking about joining the orchestra?

Lakka: “If you are interested in joining orchestra, you definitely should join, since it is so much fun, and you get to make lifelong friendships, and just an amazing experience overall.”
