FISD District 7-5A Honors Announced

The opening of Panther Creek High School led to the readjusting of UIL districts. “With FISD schools in three different districts, this expands the opportunity for schools to make the playoffs,” Campus Athletic Coordinator Matt Swinnea said.

Just a few weeks removed from one of the most successful seasons in school history, the postseason accolades for the Redhawks football team are being released with the District 7-5A first and second teams released on Thursday.

Leading the way for the Redhawks is quarterback Keldric Luster. The junior signal caller led the DFW area in 5A passing with 3,351 yards, 30 TDs, 4 INTs; and finished 7th in rushing with 1,434 yards and another 22 TDs.

“It’s a great feeling being District MVP especially with all the hard work I put in during the off-season,” Luster said via text. “I feel like I really earned it.”

On the defensive side of things, defensive end Chika Ugoh was one of several Redhawks named to the first and second team, with Ugoh earning District 7-5A First Team Defense honors.

“[It] feels really good,” Ugoh said via text. “After not making it last year, it was one of my main goals to make it.”

Also earning honors, the Redhawks coaching staff which earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors.

“It is a great honor for our staff and really is a testament to the resilience of our team,” head coach Matt Swinnea said via email. “Our success on the field was the result of players buying into what we were selling: that if we wanted to be champions, that was our #OneChoice. I am extremely proud of our players and staff. They deserve this recognition.”
