Girls’ basketball continues to seek winning ways

The girls basketball team has earned their spot at state three years in a row, but with a new season, the expectations stay the same.

When you think of the Redhawk girls’ basketball team, you might think of success and trophies, but within the organization, the team doesn’t let its reputation get to them.

“I think that, obviously from the outside looking in, there’s probably this idea that the expectations are increasing every year, but that is not news to us because that’s what’s happening from within on our own,” head coach Ross Reedy said.

“We definitely just think of every season as a new season, we are very grateful for all of the state appearances and everything that we have accomplished, but we always start every season with a new slate, like we are at the bottom of the food chain,” senior Jazzy Owens-Barnett said.

To rarely anyone’s surprise, the Redhawks have continued the winning this season, not only earning the championship at the Dallas Mavericks Fall Classic tournament, but also starting District 9-5A play with a 5-0 record.

“To think to ever go into a season, on our end, and to look around the metroplex and to look around our district, we got third in district last year and to think, man we’re playing for a state championship, or we’re gonna make the state championship, is really ridiculous, because, you know how fortunate we’ve been, our district is a monster, there are so many talented players and talented teams and so we understand for us just trying to be the best versions of ourselves and problem solve throughout the year and put out a good product is really what where we are trying to aim that pressure,” Reedy said.

To stay undefeated, the girls will have to beat Frisco at the nest tomorrow with tip off at 6:30.
