In this week’s edition of Artistic Expression, Wingspan sits down with fashion designer Kenna Hall as she talks about her passion for fashion.

Kenna Hall

Name: Kenna Hall

Grade: Senior

Hobby: Fashion Design and cosplay theatre

Years involved: 3 years

Wingspan: What made you choose to do fashion design?

Hall: “I’ve always liked fashion, I never got into it very much though. I really needed a credit my freshman year and I decided to take fashion designing and I sort of just stuck with it because I loved it.”

Wingspan: When did you first discover your interest in this topic?

Hall: “Probably around elementary school or middle school because originally I thought I was an ‘artist’ but I wasn’t really good at drawing. Back then, I would draw characters with outfits, but I would only draw the outfits because I couldn’t draw anything else. I guess that would be my first experience with fashion design.”

Wingspan: What do you want to pursue in the future?

Hall: “Definitely fashion design, I’m planning on majoring in it.”

Wingspan: What are some things that have inspired your work?

Hall: “Costumers have definitely inspired my work. I do a lot of cosplay and a lot of my fashion design stems from creating my own costumes.”

Wingspan: How is your personality reflected in your work?

Hall: “I’m definitely a very eccentric person so a lot of my designs and outfits I make are very big, dramatic, or complicated”

Wingspan: What is your favorite thing about fashion design?

Hall: “Being able to create things with my hands”

Wingspan: What do you think is an obstacle you’ve had to overcome?

Hall: “Initially I would have to start and restart and keep redoing my projects and costumes a lot becauseI was a beginner when I first got into this, but now I think I am getting to a point where I don’t make as many mistakes and I don’t have to redo my work more often.”

Wingspan: What’s your favorite memory about this class?

Hall: “I really loved my freshman year in this class. We had around nine people in it and it was just a really good group. I made a lot of friends and we made a lot of good stuff!”
