Wingspan: When did you start playing basketball?
Groom: “I started playing basketball when I was three years old and ever since I’ve just been in love with everything about it.”
Wingspan: Why did you start playing basketball?
Groom: “To choose the biggest inspiration would be extremely hard for me because there’s so many people whose impact on my life and how I approach the game of basketball was tremendous, but to narrow it down it would be my parents and older brothers. Just seeing how hard they work at everything they do in their life in order to become extremely successful has always inspired me to do nothing less than that.”
Wingspan: Who is your biggest inspiration?
Groom: “My favorite part about basketball is when I shoot and the ball goes through the net without touching the rim. The satisfaction from that is second to none.”
Wingspan: What is your favorite part about basketball?
Groom: “This season, my personal goals are to get 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team all district while getting academic all district for the second year in a row and hopefully an opportunity to play basketball at that next level, wherever that may be.”
Wingspan: What are you aiming for this season?
Groom: “For my team, I am hoping that we can get a district championship and overall just put together a run that makes it deep into playoffs and maybe even get a state championship.”
Wingspan: How has basketball shaped you as a person?
Groom: “Lastly, Basketball has shaped me as a person in more ways than I could have ever imagined. From things like my work ethic and confidence, all the way to paying attention to little details, listening and respecting my coaches, and most importantly understanding that nothing happens overnight. Just believing that the work will show if you put it in has been something I carried all throughout my life into things like school, my personal life and more.”
