Picnic time: the importance of company

Food is celebration, and celebration is food. Our most cherished memories around food are often those we share with loved ones. Sharing food is a great way to share our talents and cultures with one another. To celebrate the start of spring and our coming graduation, my friends and I decided to have a picnic over spring break.

The picnic was really fun, and it gave us a chance to experience each other’s family cuisines. From cheesy pasta to a chickpea salad, the food brought us closer to each other and helped us create amazing memories. Setting up the picnic blankets and food was a bit difficult with the excessive amounts of wind that day, but we were able to make it work.

After setting out all the dishes, we listened to various genres of music as we raved about the diverse sets of flavors in each dish. After lunch, we played cricket outside and took photos on the playground. Having a picnic was a really fun bonding experience, and I hope you will plan one with your friends and family too!

Here’s a recipe for a dish I brought to the picnic:

Air Fried Garam Masala Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 4 cubed and peeled potatoes
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • Himalayan salt to taste
  • ½ tsp red chili powder
  • ½ tsp amchur (dry mango powder) – optional
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp avocado oil

Instructions:

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (you can also use an oven)
  • Line the basket with parchment paper and add the potatoes
  • Cook them for 10 minutes, flip, and cook for another 5-7 minutes or until as crispy as desired.
