AP English Language and American Studies students are working on a project in which they explore current events to analyze rhetorical choices.
“One big thing is the ability to connect with what they are seeing in class in our curriculum and how this relates to the real world and maybe some of the issues going on or just some of the scientific advancements,” AP English Language and American Studies teacher Ashley Harrison said. “It allows them to just be better informed with a bigger picture of what’s going on outside of Liberty or even Frisco, just kind of worldwide what’s going on in the news right now.”
The assignment’s self-directed nature is something that junior Kaitlyn Straub finds beneficial to the learning experience.
“They really let us have a lot of freedom when we were choosing what we wanted to research about,” junior Kaitlyn Straub said. “So this project really helps us kinda just gain more knowledge for that. It really helps us with learning how to analyze stuff better because along with trying to find the credibility we do have to find what we’re actually looking for… what they’re trying to say about it”
