Wingspan: How does it feel to be the only athlete from the school who is still competing?
Kabongo: “It feels amazing and I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity.”
Wingspan: What gives you motivation to take this so seriously at such a young age?
Kabongo: “When I do so well in it, it makes me feel like I have a lot of potential in it and that kind of gives me motivation to push myself and take it seriously because I want to do well and succeed.”
Wingspan: Was there any specific moment when you knew this is what you wanted to do?
Kabongo: “Probably when I started winning a lot. I was like, “Yeah, this is what I need to be doing.”
Wingspan: How does it feel to have gone this far only as a freshman?
Kabongo: “It’s awesome, and hopefully there will be more success in the future.”
Wingspan: Are you planning on doing track in college? Why or why not?
Kabongo: “Yes, I want to do track in college because this is what I’m passionate about and I want to take it as far as possible.”
Wingspan: Are there are specific people that have impacted you the most throughout this journey to state?
Kabongo: “Probably my coaches because they have always been there for me, pushing me and helping me. All through the whole season they’ve believed in me no matter what. They always encourage me which helps me to push myself further. They are always keeping me on tab on and off the field.”
