In preparation for Red Rhythm try-outs on Mar. 28, the team is hosting a free dance workshop in the dance room Thursday, with another scheduled for Mar. 19.
During each workshop, different dance types will be taught, such as flexibility & high kick, turns, leaps, and military precision.
“In these workshops dancers will be able to learn skills that are assessed at tryouts,” senior officer Reva Kabnurkar said. “For example, the turns workshops will teach dancers how to do a double pirouette and the leaps workshop will teach dancers calypsos and press leap.”
The workshops help a lot in preparation for the try outs that are coming up according to Red Rhythm director Nicole Nothe.
“The workshops are tremendously helpful for anyone considering trying out because it is an opportunity to learn skills that are in the tryout routine,” Nothe said. “Especially the kick and the military workshops are the actual choreography that you will try-out in front of the judges so it puts the dancer a step ahead of those who don’t attend the workshops.”
Seeking to be a part of next year’s Red Rhythm squad, the workshops are a welcome opportunity for freshman Sahasra Buchireddygari.
“I really like that we get to practice and kind of prepare for what we actually see at tryouts and things like techniques and stuff,” Buchireddygari said. “I also like how we get to practice in front of actual drill team officers and kind of like perfecting our technique and getting better at it.”
In addition to showcasing and improving skills, these workshops can provide opportunities to interact with other Red Rhythm members/officers, as well as others trying out.
“These workshops are a great way to meet girls who are currently on the team and get some tryout advice,” Kabnurkar said.
