Students in Future United Club will be writing letters of encouragement to foster care workers for the upcoming Christmas season to show their appreciation and get volunteering hours along the way.
“We are tied up with an organization called Embrace Texas which is a foster care homeland,” sophomore Rishita Sadhukhan said. “We’re sending these letters to the people who work there to show our appreciation for them and what they do. So these will probably be given around Christmas to like for appreciation for what they do for everybody and how they help all the kids.”
Each letter will be worth 1 hour of volunteering, and students can submit as many letters as they want. These letters should include small, flat trinkets such as bookmarks, gift cards of $5-10 or ornaments.
“What inspired us is the often unrecognized but the hard work that the foster care workers do for the families and communities in Texas,” sophomore Veronika Obideiko said. “We keep track by having them sign a google form on how many letters they wanna do and whether they wanna do it.”
