Students are taking their learning into their own hands in AP World History.
Students in the seven sections of the class are taking a different approach and doing presentations on the trans-oceanic connections which is highlighted by global exploration and innovation.
As part of the project students are placed in groups and given an image to explain and then it turns to a class discussion on the historical context.
“They’re tired of listening to me lecture so they put on their own group lecture about topics related to their own topics relating to the early modern era in world history for AP World History,” Ap World History teacher Jeff Crowe said. “The level of engagement went up because they were interested in seeing each other teach.”
By having students present information and then turn it over to the class, students such as sophomore Ginger Zander thought the different format of learning was beneficial.
“I personally like the presentations because it was a creative and helpful way to learn all the information,” Zander said. “Because we were able to teach it to others which helped us have a better understanding of what we’re learning to hear it from others was also helpful.”
