After football season ended, Red Rhythm jumped into preparing for contest season. After months of learning and practicing the choreography they are showing it off for the first tonight at the boys and girls variety basketball games.
Tonight they will performing their junior clinic that have members ranging from 6th to 11th grade, an ensemble performance, and a team hip hop.
“This Friday we’re going to be performing out junior clinic performance,” dance teacher Nicole Nothe said. “It will spotlight out sixth through eleventh graders that are going to be dancing with us. We are also having an ensemble performance and out team hiphop. All of these performances are ones that we will competing at contest season, so this is like a little premiere that we’ve been working on.”
For First Lieutenant Sheen Saxena the amount of the practices that the team has had, hopes they can show support for their community.
“We’ve been having a lot of practices,” Saxena said. “We have two morning practices a week at 6:15, along with an after-school practice that runs two hours, and we have drill team class, so we have been putting a lot of work in for our upcoming performances at basketball games, because we really want to show and come out for our community and basketball team.”
Unlike football season, basketball season allows the team to focus on more techniques that they wouldn’t have been able to have to the to look at in football season, according to red rhythm director Nicole Nothe.
“Football season has a really quick turnaround,” Nothe said. “You’re working on a routine and then you perform it at the end of the week. Basketball season and competition season, you’re really honing in on details of the routines, those routines are way more detailed than football routines, because they are more competitive. So we’re taking a lot of time to dive into that routine, and making sure that the precision is there within our team.”
Tonights performances will be during the halftimes at each of the games.
Varsity Girls play at 5:45 and Varsity Boys play at 7:15.
