Concerts truly are amazing and can get one to like songs that they previously didn’t. That was the case when checking out Irish rock band Inhaler Inhaler March 19 night at the House of Blues in Dallas on the final stop of their North America tour.
Having a live band, an energetic crowd, and special- effects lights warps your perception of the music. It certainly did for me, and I came out a changed woman, appreciating songs I didn’t before.
When the first single ‘Your House’ released, I was a little taken aback at the change in the band’s sound. Their first two albums ‘It Wont Always Be Like This’ and ‘Cuts and Bruises’ were akin to early Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes in terms of aesthetics. However, ‘Your House’ was more cheery and slowed down, almost like a pop song. If it’s similar to anything, I would say ‘Fluorescent Adolescent’ by ‘Arctic Monkeys’. But in concert, it was proper rock. I think that speaks to the production of the song. This was one of the closing songs of the concert and got everyone incredibly excited, so it was a good choice.
The energy was consistent throughout the entire concert, but the crowd really exploded when they played ‘When It Breaks’ off their first album. It was nostalgic for sure, it was one of the songs that got me into the band. I appreciate it when bands don’t abandon their old songs because it has gotten too popular and they want people to listen to their other songs.
My favorite song of the night was ‘Love Will Get You There’. It had the punchy, rock vibe that I’m so fond of and it’s my favorite song off the “Cuts and Bruises” album. I would also like to mention other popular songs that were absolutely immaculate to listen to in-person. ‘Dublin In Ecstasy’ has some of the best guitar instrumental and drum sounds of any rock song I’ve ever listened to, very reminiscent of ‘505’ by Arctic Monkeys.
And I hate to be that person who was waiting for the most popular song to play, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to hear ‘My Honest Face’. This is a song I think anyone can love no matter what genre you’re into. It has incredible drums sounds and vocals and just uplifts the soul. This was also one of the songs that got me into the band three years ago, so it was just nostalgic.
