Both the boys and girls cross country teams are competing in the regional meet on Saturday at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.

“I feel like we’re going to do really well,” junior Carrie Fish said. “We have a few teams in mind that we have to compete with, and so we really have to push ourselves.”

The girls’ team has placed first in four of six meets and placed third in the other two. With this record, they are expecting to do well on Saturday and advance as a team to the state meet.

“We’ve progressed a lot in the sense that a lot of us are PRing(setting personal records) every race and improving our times drastically which is all been because of our training over the summer,” Fish said.

On the boys side, getting to state as a team would be for the first time in school history, yet not a goal that they can’t achieve.

“The goal is always to go to state regardless,”senior David Buss said. “A personal goal is to PR and run a really good time where I can qualify and help our team qualify.”

The regional meet is the first step to getting to the state meet. Last season, multiple runners from both teams ran individually at state, but did not make it as a team.

The top four teams from regionals move on to state, and the next top ten runners will be able to advance as individuals.

“We’ve all dropped our times significantly,” Buss said. “Everyone has stepped up and we’ve all been encouraging each other to do our best in practices to get us where we need to be at regionals.”
