Auditions Thursday and Friday for first show choir
March 2, 2017
The choir department is forming its first show choir group, which is a group dedicated to the presentation of music from pop, Broadway, jazz, and other genres. Auditions will be Thursday after school starting at 4:20 p.m. and Friday morning starting at 8:00 a.m.
“A show choir is a great way for us in choral music to kind of diversify what we offer, not only singing classical music and things like that but being able to things more pop and jazz orientated,” choir director Bruce Stevenson said. “Things that we can take out into the community for events and school functions. So it just adds a dimension of creativity and programming that we haven’t had at this time.”
Stevenson has many goals and hopes for the choir departments first show choir. Students will have four minutes to audition and will be expected to sing a portion of a song of their choice in order to demonstrate their vocal talent.
“I’m hoping the show choir will kind of accomplish two things that it will really raise Liberty’s visibility out in the community and people will know who we are,” Stevenson said. “I would like to raise the visibility of choral music for the choir program here in the school. So people have an idea of what are we doing and that we are growing and looking for new members. “

I am a part of the Forrest Bird Charter School/Bird Eye News Journalsim class and I saw your news site and it caught my eye. I think that it is really cool that you are giving these kids a chance to express themselves, through their voice in this case. Keep up the good work!
