STAAR testing resumes Thursday
March 30, 2017
Round two of STAAR testing is Thursday in both gyms with sophomores taking the English II exam. The STAAR test examines students’ proficiency in their subject to help determine if they can advance into the next level.
“I feel like I’m ready. I’ve done some practice tests online,” sophomore Moyo Shobowale said. “I’m going to go to sleep early to prepare.”
Student on campus typically do well on the English STAAR tests with a 94 percent pass rate on the English I STAAR and a district-best 96 percent pass rate on the English II STAAR.
The exams are five hour timed tests, but it takes longer to get ready for a test day.
“The stress really comes from assisting the test coordinator with the test preparation,” counselor Andrea Douglas said. “There are weeks of preparation and planning that go into a successful testing day.”
