Pulse hosted the first High Five Friday of the 2017-2018 school year this morning with club officers, members, and staff members high fiving students as they entered campus.

“High Five Friday was an event that we held for about an hour in the morning,” Pulse Secretary Sarah Qureshi said. “As students walked in we gave them high fives to brighten up their day.”

Students on campus enjoyed being welcomed on campus for the last day of the week.

“It felt really good,” junior Brittany O’Rielly said “It felt like someone cared about my day and wanted to make sure that I was ok and share positive thoughts.”

The excitement was not limited to students and club members, assistant principal Phil Brown wore a sign for the High Five Friday event and high fived students as they walked through the rotunda this morning.

“I think it was a great way to start the day,” counselor Andrea Douglas said. “Everybody seemed really excited about it and I think it just set the tone to have a more positive experience for that day at school.”

With many positive responses to High Five Friday, some students and staff suggested that the event become a more common occurrence on campus.

“Right now we have [High Five Friday] scheduled for the second Friday of each month,” Douglas said. “However we did have some feedback today that some people would like to see that more often.”

Qureshi enjoyed standing outside and greeting her peers as they walked on campus.

“Seeing like everyone’s smile as they walked by,” Qureshi said. “Even if they were confused or really didn’t want to [high five us], that smile that they had as they walked in, seeing that we impacted their day was the best part.”
