Performing at the football game Friday night, the marching band will have a short turn around as it competes in the regional University Interscholastic League at Little Elm Stadium at 4 p.m. Saturday.

“During the final weeks’ preparation, the staff has been meeting diligently to make sure that “all of the T’s are crossed and all of the I’s are dotted,” associate band director Zack Anderson said. “We know going into UIL and given the opportunity to go into the area rounds that we will be set knowing that the students will have a successful performance.”

If the program successfully advances through regional and area rounds of competition, the band will make their trip to the state UIL competition for the first time in the school’s history.

“Of course we’ve been doing rehearsals as usual,” senior drum major Caitlyn Hazzard said. “The three of us [drum majors] have also been adding in some more musical things to the show and making our conducting more clear to better enhance (the musicians’) performance.

Although the group has set their sights high on achieving a specific goal, the veterans of the program will be facing some new emotions as the marching band season comes to a close.

“Being a senior, it’s a little bit different this year,” Hazzard said. “It’s our last chance and our last performances which makes it a little bit more emotional, but it’s also really exciting because as a senior I get to look back on the changes that have occurred over my four years.”
