Growing plants to further knowledge
November 14, 2017
Christina Chong’s PAP Biology class is getting a first hand look into the process of photosynthesis.
Students brought in seeds ranging from lettuce to apples and were given the opportunity to plant and watch them grow.
“This experiment started as a misconception that the students had about seeds actually needing sunlight in order to grow they obviously don’t need sunlight because they’re underneath the soil so we ended up taking some seeds and putting them in paper towels and putting them in a dark, damp place then we could see if they actually did germinate.” PAP Biology teacher Christina Chong said.
After the seeds were germinated students were given the chance to pot and water their seeds.
Now when students enter class the first thing they do is check on and water their plants as they track the growth caused by this process.
Students learned that all it takes is some soil a little water and a little light to make a small seed something bigger.
