Ice and snow miss Frisco, but area still in deep freeze through Wednesday
January 16, 2018
Dozens upon dozens of school districts closed Tuesday due to the threat of inclement weather, but for the most part, it was business as usual in Frisco ISD as a cold front has temperatures staying below freezing Tuesday and Wednesday.
One of the only schedule alterations, was the cancellation or postponement of Tuesday’s district soccer games.
“Honestly I was kinda glad our soccer game was cancelled today because it’s freezing outside,” senior Kassidi Brown said. “And with all the sicknesses going around I don’t want to be out in the cold and get sick.”
The storm system entered the area Monday night, and while it wasn’t enough to cancel school, it was enough to make it difficult for some to get out of the house.
“The cold weather froze my garage shut and my car is stuck in the garage,” senior Ashleigh Berry said. “It was kind of a struggle this morning to find rides to and from school for me and my brother.”
January temperatures average in the 50s in this area, making Tuesday’s high of 27 degrees significantly colder than normal.
“It’s kind of weird that it’s so cold because usually it’s hotter here,” junior Blake Andros said. “I wanted it to be colder a few months ago but now I want it to be warm again.”
The district posted a tweet on Monday detailing its policy for inclement weather, with more than 700 replies, including many from Redhawks.
