Wolverines ground Redhawks in first game of district play
August 22, 2018
Volleyball took on Wakeland Tuesday night in the District 9-5A opener. The Redhawks got off to a solid start by beating the Wolverines 25-19 in the first set but then dropped the last three sets 22-25, 25-27, and 22-25, falling to the Wolverines 3-1.
“The game didn’t turn out how we wanted to for sure,” head volleyball coach Ui Womble said. “I thought we made a lot of mistakes early on in the game and just really never recovered from them. I thought that there were sparks of really really good volleyball and we need to be a little more consistent with our points scoring.”
The team looks to bounce back against their next opponent, Reedy, at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in The Nest
“We’re all upset but I think we found a way to pick up the slack and we’ve connected really well,” sophomore DD Bova-Ford said. “We definitely still need work because we have a really big goal this year and we want to accomplish it.”
