Cashing in on his own fashions
While most students 16 or older have a job or are looking to get hired, one student decided to earn money a different way by starting his own clothing line. Senior Myron Huff knew that he didn’t want to be limited to working for someone else, so he took his interest of cash and fashion and created his own clothing line that launched the week of Aug. 20.
“I wanted to pay off my car really so I thought of different things to pay off my car,” Myron said. “I was thinking of going and washing cars and doing other things like labor but then I started thinking I could make my own clothing line so I went and just kind of started that up.”
But it wasn’t as easy as simply designing some clothes.
“It was probably like a two month set up before everything was fully started,” Myron said. “I had to get like a cricut machine and then I had to get like a t-shirt press and then I had to get the website address and things like that so that was really a long time before everything got set up really.”
With a clothing line comes creating a logo in order to stand out from all the other clothing lines out there. The logo “Ca$hion” is the face of Myron’s clothing apparel.
“I came up with it when I was thinking about everyone likes cash and everyone likes fashion nowadays so I put them together and they made “Ca$hion” so that was my logo,” Myron said. “Right now, we have a lot of people outside of school right now buying, but I’m trying to get a lot of people in school to start buying it so I can have more customers inside the school.”
While most younger siblings look up to their older siblings just because they are older, Myron Huff’s younger brother, Myson, has a different reason to look up to his brother.
“I guess I’m happy for him because he’s starting something at such a young age and he’s promoting himself and basically putting himself out there,” sophomore Myson said. “I kind of always wanted to start my own type of business so he basically showed me how to get started. He just stayed focus and he remained busy and basically always improving and making his art better. It’s unique. I’ve never heard of the word that he is using.”
For the Huff family, starting a business is not something out of the ordinary as the family consists of entrepreneurs.
“I am very excited about Myron’s new clothing line,” mom Courtnee said. “I was not surprised that he would want to have his own business because all of his family members are entrepreneurs. We as a family always believe in each person should explore and pursue what your passions are. When he told us about his vision, we help to stoke the fire through brainstorming what the possibilities may be for Cashion. We helped him understand the different parts that are involved in creating and running a business. We talked about how he would need to stay ahead and create or design the newest trend.”
Launching his clothing line has brought a noticeable change according to Courtnee.
“I do like the new daily grind I see in Myron,” she said. “He keeps up with his business daily. He’s always focusing on the next potential Cashion creation. It seems to be growing his confidence as a young business owner. I see him maturing and becoming a more productive and responsible individual. I see his beautiful potential as a young man and maybe it’s just because I am his mom.”
Like any startup, clothing lines can take a lot of hard work and dedication.
“People who want to start their own clothing line, I’m just saying that make sure you have a lot of time and effort to put into it, otherwise you can get really distracted,” Myron Huff said. “Just keep working at it and maybe it will come out better for you.”
