Century club welcomes three new members

Years of sweat and workouts have lead to three Redhawks reaching school wrestling immortality. With the wrestling season in full swing, three seniors have recently joined the century club.

The club, a group of just over a dozen wrestlers who have achieved 100 wins throughout their redhawk career, have opened their doors to three new members – Savannah West, Ashley Cook, and Precious Essien.

“This is a culmination of a great achievement for all three of them,” head coach Cody Bridwell said. “It shows that this program is continuing to build and get better and better, but it also shows their individual dedication to this team.”

The first to achieve the feat this season, Savannah West, got the historic pin at the Liberty throwdown with her family right there beside her.

“Everyone knew it was my 100th match to win, and everyone was there and I pinned the girl, got up, shook my hand, I officially won, and my mom came out on the mat with flowers and a sign,” senior Savannah West said. “It was weird because in all my years of wrestling I never thought I’d be one of the people to get 100 wins.”

Right after West, Ashley Cook hit the milestone during the same tournament.

“I think I only had like 15 wins my freshman year, so the milestone creeped up on me and they let me know right before the weekend that I could achieve it,” senior Ashley Cook said. “It was a lot of fun, my parents had a sign and flowers and we took a picture and it was a fun way to look back on my career.”

The latest to join the club, Precious Essien, got his 100th win on December 13th.

“I achieved the 100 win mark in a dual like two or three weeks ago against Frisco, and it was really exciting,”  senior Precious Essien said. “I was really happy because it was kinda stressful the last few weeks knowing I was going to hit that, but hitting it was a lot of fun.”

With each of these senior wrestlers career’s numbered, looking back to their impact on the program is an interesting prospect.

“These three not only have been great wrestlers, but fantastic leaders on our team willing to work with anybody, but what makes me more proud is that they’re all three amazing people,” Bridwell said.
