For freshmen, sophomores, and juniors on campus, Nov. 1 may just be an average day, but for seniors planning on continuing their education, Friday is the last chance to meet the early application deadline for many colleges.

“It was important for me to reach the early application deadline because it just makes life easier,” senior Paige Swallow said. “It’s easier to get housing, it’s less stressful because you get accepted quicker, and it increases your chances of acceptance. It’s very rewarding and I feel super happy when I’ve turned an application in for an early deadline.”

Meeting the early application deadline can mean a higher chance of acceptance to the university.

“The deadlines in general are important,” counselor Ryan Kiefer said. “If you don’t meet the deadline then you won’t quite likely get into the university or program you want. But the early ones, usually those students get priority. With the early ones, you have an increased chance of getting accepted to the university or the program of your choice. Just because you don’t meet the priority deadline doesn’t mean you won’t get in, it just means you are in the general pool, and it lowers your chances of getting in.”

For senior Vik Submaranian, waiting for an acceptance is going to be tough enough, but he plans on easing the stress by taking advantage of the early application deadline.

“For most of my schools, I’m too impatient to wait for regular decisions,” Submaranian said. “It will let me know of acceptance sooner.”
