Many people may not know, but the school day could get extended by five minutes next school year if the school district approves the draft calendar for 2016-17 at Tuesday’s school board meeting. It started as a rumor, but then, it was confirmed that it is a possibility for next year’s calendar. There was great disturbance in the force that day, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

I, however, don’t understand all the fret over this change.

Just think about it. Five minutes. what could five minutes possibly do to hurt anyone? The school day is already seven whole hours, so what is an extra five minutes going to do?

The district has said that, with these extra five minutes, it is possible that the lunch periods could be made longer. Yeah, all those short lunch periods that people are always complaining about? That could be fixed.

Another thing about this change is that it is going to make the school year shorter. Three days are going to be shaved off! Three whole days! Personally, I like this plan a whole lot more.

Most of the people who are against this change are the live in the moment type of people. Trust me, I understand. When I first heard about it, I was ready to murder somebody. However, as I began to learn more about this and studied the facts, I realized that maybe this wasn’t so bad after all.

When the district announced that there would be five extra minutes added to the school year next year, people were mad. Many still are. But I tell you, there is nothing to stress about. Really, nothing at all. These five extra minutes are a good thing, not only for our school, but for the entire district.

You can see the calendar for yourself here.
