Happy Thursday!

I hope y’all have had a fantastic week so far. We are officially seven weeks closer to summer.

This week I wanted to talk about a topic that’s more on the serious side.

Racism-

Definition: a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others.

Yesterday, I was in a Zoom webinar for one of my classes, and we had a special speaker spend an hour telling his story. He is an African American male who was wrongly accused of a crime, and because of his race and class, spent 30 years in prison for no reason. If it weren’t for the lawyer he begged to have, he would have been sentenced to be executed.

This got me thinking. Racism is something that started at the beginning of time, and to this day is still expressed in our society. It affects hundreds and thousands of people every day, and this is not okay.

The only thing that people should judge others by is our personality, morals, and what’s in our hearts and minds. Our shape, color, height, weight, class, race, religion, gender, sexuality and beliefs, are all things that don’t matter, yet somehow we are still judged by. 

Though some of us are not aware of it, racism takes place all around us, and we need to do something to change that. Frisco ISD, more specifically, our school, makes no exception for this foolish behavior. It is a safe place for students and staff to come in everyday and better themselves along with helping to better others. As a school we must do everything in our power to keep it this way.

Remember, if you ever feel like you are being bullied or treated differently for no reason, there are many people to talk to, and who can and want to help you.
