Ashvita Girish

Though making gluten-bread may be difficult, Girish explains how to create a simple and delicious alternative. Accoding to Girish, adding cheese to the biscuits make the process easier.

Cheese biscuits

Gluten-free bread is the hardest type of bread to make. Making bread in general is a lengthy process, and making it gluten-free takes even more effort. Making sure you have the right proportions of flour to the liquid and ensuring that the resting and baking times are enough leaves a lot of room for error. With that being said, when it comes to cheese bread you have more flexibility because for any fault in the consistency of the dough, the consistency of the cheese will make up for it.

With fall coming in full swing, these biscuits will go perfectly with a warm bowl of soup or pasta, and the buttery topping gives you a warm fuzzy feeling inside. They make an easy alternative to the traditional dinner rolls and can be made in no time for a quick snack.

Girish’s cheddar cheese biscuits aim to create the perfect flavor and texture, free of gluten.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups gluten-free flour
  • 1 tsp xanthan gum
  • 1 tbs baking powder
  • 1tbs granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ¾ tsp sea salt
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp Italian/Old Bay Seasoning

Topping

  • 2 tbs butter
  • ¼ tbs Italian/Old Bay Seasoning
  • 2 tsp fresh parsley

Directions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside
  • In a large bowl, combine the gluten-free flour, xanthan gum, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder, salt, baking soda, and Italian seasoning. You can also add some fresh parsley if you’d like
  • Add the budder into the flour mixture and slowly work the butter into the dough. Coat the butter with flour, and gently crumble it until the dough resembles breadcrumbs
  • Stir in the cheese. Once the cheese is evenly distributed, stir in the buttermilk and mix until it forms dough
  • With a large spoon, scoop the dough into 12 even biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet
  • Preheat your oven to 425℉. While the oven preheats, pop the biscuit in the freezer to let the butter harden a little before baking
  • Bake the biscuits for 14-18 minutes
  • While the biscuits bake, make the butter herb sauce by melting the butter and stirring in the herb mixture
  • When the biscuits are done, spoon or brush the butter on them and serve immediately
