After a long wait, Sasha Sloan released her debut album Only Child. If you have listened to her music before, you would have an idea of what this album might be like based on its title. Sloan is an only child who has sung a lot about her difficult home life and the feelings of loneliness she harnesses because she has no siblings.

This album is very touching and sweet, but it can also be very depressing depending on your mood. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions but it is very relatable because she sings about many of the emotions that we all feel. Out of all the music that I have discovered recently, her music is the most human to me.

My favorites are “House With No Mirrors” and “Until It Happens To You.” “House With No Mirrors” is an incredible song about self acceptance and self love. She really makes you think about whether it is really worth judging yourself so harshly. The imagery in the song is really beautiful. From the talking walls and mirrors to the voices in her head. It’s a beautiful song. “Until It Happens To You” has a special place in my heart because I can relate to it so much.

The reason why I love this song so much is because it describes the feelings you experience when someone you loved very much dies. As someone who has, unfortunately, experienced death a lot in my life, this song describes grief in a way I have never been able to. It really sucks when people say “I’m sorry for your loss” because you know they can’t even begin to imagine your pain. They will never know until it happens to them and that is why this song is one of my favorites.

I really think that for her debut, Sasha outdid herself. She is so human and honest. It makes you genuinely feel like someone understands your feelings and it brings you a certain sense of comfort listening to her singing. I would 10/10 recommend this album to anyone.
