Trunk R Treat, one of the biggest events on the school’s fall calendar has been canceled due to concerns regarding COVID-19.

“It’s the favorite thing that we’ve ever done,” band director Jamie Weaver said via Zoom. “It’s our favorite event of the year. It’s absolutely shattering and heartbreaking to not have it and not only from our standpoint from participating in it but the fact that you have that many people that are used to coming not getting to do it now I mean you might as well take away Christmas and Thanksgiving for us and Fourth of July like, it’s awful.”

Usually held on the Monday before Halloween, Trunk R Treat features clubs, teams, and organizations handing out candy in an event that has grown tremendously over the years.

“Trunk R Treat is usually a community-wide event that probably sees close to 2,000-3,000 people maybe,” Weaver said. “We started this thing now goodness probably six years ago I think and it started modest and small in the parking lot in front of the school but it has grown considerably over the past couple of years so it’s usually an enormous opportunity for the community and for the school.”

For many clubs and club members, Trunk R Treat meant dressing up and having fun.

“Last year all the theatre kids dressed up as zombies and so we all were able to do some crazy zombie makeup,” sophomore Sarah Robertson said via Zoom. “We met up afterward to do it and it was just a lot of fun to be creative and do that makeup.”
