Football falls to the Racoons and to second place
November 2, 2020
Riding a four game winning streak, the Redhawks took on the #5 5A DII team in Texas, the Frisco High School Racoons, Friday at Toyota Stadium. But for the first time since a season opening loss to Reedy, the Redhawks were outscored, losing 39-19.
“They guys took it hard,” head coach Matt Swinnea said via email. “Anytime you pour your heart into something and come up short it is difficult. It also speaks to how much they care about each other and the investment they are making to try and have the best season around here in a long time.”
Both teams entered the contest undefeated in District 7-5A, but the Racoons lived up to their ranking, leaving the Redhawks with a 3-1 district record.
“They are one of the better teams,” Swinnea said. “We did what we couldn’t do, and that was turn the ball over. If we didn’t do that then I firmly believe we were in a good spot to beat a great team.”
Though the team was somewhat defeated after the game, Swinnea believes his team will come back and put up a fight Thursday against Lebanon Trail High School.
“I think we will be fine,” Swinnea said. “There are many challenges in front of us, especially coming off a tough game and heading into a short week, but this team is resilient. They are fighters. They will be ready.”
