Kroger’s Vegan Line
December 9, 2020
Supporting animal-rights can make shopping for food a challenge, however that is now a bit easier with the 2020 launch of Kroger‘s vegan products which are cruelty-free.
And as an animal-rights oriented person, it was good to hear that an extensive grocery chain was rolling out a cruelty-free line. Whatever their intentions were, the animals are free from harm.
And since all of the items on this particular line were generally affordable (make sure to read the labels as it isn’t an all-vegan company), purchasing more than one will not break the bank.
Perhaps the best is the vegan chocolate chip cookie dough at $2.50 for a batch of twelve cookies. A favorite of the line, it’s recommended they be baked for a little less than the given time so the cookies won’t be even the slightest bit burnt yet still remain soft. But then again, it’s all up to how one likes their cookies. There were plenty of chocolate chips to satisfy any sweet tooth.
On the other hand, though, the chocolate almond milk ($2.79) was the perfect ratio of chocolate to almond milk. The whole half gallon could easily be drunk in one go–after it has chilled, of course.
The salted caramel oatmilk ice cream ($2.99) was great and probably would have been better if the whole pint wasn’t finished in one sitting and it had been kept frozen for longer. It had these caramel dots and swirls inside of a vanilla-y style ice cream, but was made from almonds and oats instead of inflicting suffering on animals.
But not everything was a hit.
The mock-cheeses were alright; the sample vegan cheddar was slightly more overpowering than the vegan mozzarella, but if measured out accordingly, it would be more suitable for things such as pizza crust and different kinds of bread.
Finding cruelty-free eating options isn’t the easiest thing, but Kroger makes shopping and enjoying such items a lot easier.
