After months of uncertainty and delay, Pixar’s Soul was released to Disney+ on Christmas day. This is the studio’s second film of the year, the first being Onward, which was released in the United States in early March. By the time Soul was scheduled to release on June 19th, 2020, COVID had already been responsible for countless movie delays, and this film was no exception. Now, the film is out and available to watch, leading to the question: Is it worth watching?

The film follows Joe Gardner, played by Jamie Foxx, an unsatisfied musician who finally gets his big break before an unfortunate accident leads to his death, but before his soul makes it to the afterlife, his soul escapes and he ends up in a place called The Great Before, the place where souls develop their personalities before being given to a newborn baby.

To avoid being caught and sent to the afterlife, Joe pretends to be a part of a group of souls that help incomplete souls find their purpose. Following this, he paired up with soul 22, played by Tina Fey, a soul that, even after thousands of years, has been unable to find its purpose.

Together, the two adventure through both The Great Before and the real world. On their journey, 22 acquires a purpose in life while Joe discovers what his is.

The movie has been met with almost immediate success, having a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.2 on IMDb. The film’s emotional and deep story makes it 100% worth a watch.
