Rather than adding unnecessary processed sugars, this week Girish explains how to make delicious gluten-free ice cream using only bananas, oat milk, and vanilla extract.

Banana ice cream

Ever since I bought a new ice cream maker, I have been going all out with new and improved flavors and weird combinations. My little brother is my go-to taste tester and he gets very excited whenever I plan to make ice cream. While most of the flavors leave him amazed, there have been some combinations, to put it lightly, that he will never try again.

The base for all my ice creams is banana. Their natural sweetness eliminates the need for any extra sugar or sweetener. Of course you could add some honey or maple sugar for extra flavor, but if you use good quality ripe bananas, trust me that will be sufficient to satisfy your sweet cravings.

This recipe is the basic banana and vanilla, which you can customize by adding more fruit or flavorings, but let’s start with the basics.

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 1 ½ cup oat milk
  • 2 tbs vanilla extract

Directions

  • Blend all the ingredients thoroughly in a blender.
  • Pour the mixture into your ice cream maker, and let it get to work.
  • You can use frozen bananas instead of regular ones and freeze the mixture for about an hour after blending. If you are going with frozen bananas you don’t necessarily need an ice cream maker.
