Library takeout allows students to order books
January 26, 2021
Since the start of the 2020-2021 school year, many things have changed, including the way resources are offered to students learning from home. However, the school is now offering multiple ways to provide books to students no matter their learning status.
One of the new services the library is offering is “Liberty Library Book Takeout” that allows students to order up to 15 books online. Just fill out the form (bit.ly/redhawktakeout) and pick up your books from the LHS foyer every Wednesday and Friday from 2-3 p.m.
“Librarians across the district wanted to ensure VA students had access to the library just like F2F students,” librarian Chelsea Hamilton said. “Students can also check out ebooks and audiobooks through MackinVia and Sora.”
For students hungry for more reading, FISD librarians are moderating online book discussions in various categories.
“The district book club on Canvas gives students the ability to talk about books with students across all of the high schools,” Hamilton said. “We have discussion boards broken up by genre, and students are able to answer questions posed by librarians, ask their own questions, or talk about any and all books they love! The more students participating and discussing, the more we can do with it.”
Regardless of a student’s learning environment, one can enroll in the book program and order books online.
“For me, digital reading is very deterring because I don’t find it comfortable, and I don’t really enjoy it no matter how interesting the book is,” sophomore Anaya Garg said. “I really like the book takeout because Ms. Hamilton includes a few goodies with the books like bookmarks and stickers and that also uplifts me and motivates me to order more. The book takeout system is very sanitary because there are designated times when we can pick up the books, and there is almost no crowd at the time, also, the books get quarantined before they are packed.”
