Tom and Jerry are back and causing mayhem in the Big Apple in Tom and Jerry.

Playing now on HBO Max and in select theaters nationwide, Tom and Jerry, directed by Tim Story, features a cast full of big names, including: Chloë Grace Moretz, Colin Jost, Michael Peña, Ken Jeong, Rob Delaney, and many others.

However, is the movie good?

On that topic, critics and viewers are extremely divided, with the film having an 85 percent audience score and a 26 percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. IMDB’s rating seems to fall between the two, giving the movie a 5.3/10.

Personally, I found the film to be charming, having several hilarious moments, as well as times I felt like the actors were phoning it in. I had this particular problem with Colin Jost’s character, as he doesn’t seem to care about what’s going on, saying funny one-liners without any emotion behind them, the reason most likely being that he specializes in more adult humor.

As for the story, it’s pretty simple, which is good for a children’s animated movie, and I appreciated that it doesn’t require much knowledge of who Tom and Jerry are, which will help create a new generation of fans.

In the end, the film is nothing to write home about. I’d recommend watching it if you’re a Tom and Jerry fan or if you’re a fan of one of the actors in the film.
