Prom official for senior class of 2021
March 18, 2021
The senior class has officially been given a green light on dinner reservations, hair appointments, and promposals, as prom is set to happen on April 10 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at The W Hotel in Dallas. Tickets can be bought now through April 2 for $75 on Online School Fees.
“Really the only difference is there won’t be a dance floor, and the students unanimously voted for a seated dinner,” assistant principal Stacey Whaling said. “So typically we have little snacks and small bites, but this year it will actually be a sit-down meal. But we will have a DJ, just no dance floor.”
Prom will also feature a photo booth, entertainment, and King and Queen announced, allowing seniors to still celebrate their senior year while socially distanced.
“Since the class of 2020 was not able to have a prom, I would have been happy with literally anything the school did, but I am so excited we’re having an actual prom this year,” senior Sara Aldana said. “I am just excited to be around my friends and hang out with the people I have grown up with for 12 years.”
With the following of COVID-19 restrictions, prom may look different from previous years, leaving seniors to create plans that work best for them.
“I’m glad that the school is doing their best to give us a normal senior year. I know many schools are not even having a prom, so it is awesome to see all the work they are putting in and the fun activities they are planning,” senior Bailey Johnson said. “My group is not 100 percent sure we are going yet, but we are definitely thinking about going for the experience. If we don’t end up going, I think we are still planning to get together at a friends house to hang out.”
Aside from the dance itself, there will also be a prom dress up week from April 5 to April 9 to hype up the halls prior to the event. The theme days are already in the works by Student Council, with StuCo seniors feeling excited to experience something they have waited for all of high school.
“I am excited for prom week just because I think it will be super fun to see everyone dress up one more time, and I think that is something that not only the seniors can celebrate, but also the underclassmen. It will be fun for them to dress up as well,” senior Sydney Andros said. “And I’m excited to celebrate prom after three years of watching upperclassmen celebrate it, just because it is so nostalgic and you see it in the movies, and it’s just something that I think everyone looks forward to.”
