Eleven wrestlers are advancing to UIL State after another dominant performance in the 5A Region II Friday and Saturday in the Nest.
Logan Mize (119), Virley Session (132), Jordan Robison (152), and Kyra Austin (185) won individual championships in their respective weight classes with seven more wrestlers earning berths in the state meet.
“I felt our wrestlers really finished this past weekend,” head coach Jason Thurston said via email. “That’s been our big word all year is to not just get there, but make sure you finish the job you started. They compete so hard regardless of who they’re wrestling, it just makes me proud how they represent themselves, their teammates, and the school.”
For the wrestlers, going to state is a great honor, but the job isn’t done yet for the team
“It feels amazing,” Session said. “I can’t believe the moment I’ve been working for so long is here. I am as ready as ever to go out there and chase the gold.”
