Seniors celebrate prom amid pandemic
April 13, 2021
Dresses and suits, boutonnieres and corsages, Saturday was a night for seniors as they celebrated Prom at W Dallas.
The night had a bit extra meaning for two students, Aidan Barnes and Mackenzie Cobb, who were named Prom King and Queen.
“I feel happy that I won Prom King,” Barnes said. “It makes me feel special and excited that my peers voted for me.”
While some students decided to celebrate on their own instead of attending the official event, seniors like Alexandra Stiles and her friends made the most of the night at the downtown hotel.
“Originally I didn’t have high expectations for prom, but it actually turned out to be a lot of fun! It was fun to play the little casino games and dance with everyone,” Stiles said. “I had a really great time and was honestly happy that we even got a prom. The hotel was so beautiful and the view from the 33rd floor was just amazing.
Stiles believes the event was as safe as it could be in regards to COVID-19.
“I feel like people wore their masks for the most part apart from pictures and eating,” Stiles said. “The tables were spaced out, but the chairs were a bit close for my personal comfort. Overall though I didn’t feel unsafe or too worried.”
