Girls’ basketball beats McKinney North to advance in playoffs
February 24, 2016
The third time definitely proved to be the charm as the girls basketball team finally got the best of Mckinney North 44-33.
In the past two years, the girls had their season ended by the Bulldogs, but it was a different story Tuesday night.
“I think that is more of an outside thing,” head coach Ross Reedy said. “It was really just another team we had to prepare for. The actual hump was not a team, but a position. If you look a little far back, we previously defeated [McKinney North] twice, once in playoffs and once in a tournament. It seemed like there was a team to get over, but I think it was an outside thing.”
The girls jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the first quarter, however, the Bulldogs closed the gap by the end of the first half, only allowing the girls to score three points, tying the game at 14.
In the third, it was a battle for baskets as the teams scored eleven points each, finishing the third 25-25. In the final minutes of the game, it was a game of defense with the girls outscoring the Bulldogs 19-8.
“Even though it was a little ugly at times, we were able to execute well,” Reedy said.
With the win, the girls will continue on to play undefeated number one state-ranked Mansfield Timberview in the regional semifinals on Friday in Garland.
