Hobby for some, business for Hasan

At the time, the thought never entered her mind.
After all, she was just a few years old, and not many people remember much from that time.
But over the years, her scribbling with crayons and paint became something more.
It became an Instagram art business for junior Zainab Hasan.
“I started my business almost a year ago. My older cousin had inspired me to create a page of my own,” Zainab said. ”I started off with really small canvases, then I built my way up to bigger ones as I became better.”
As Zainab progressed in her business she was able to sell eight paintings. with one being sold to a customer thousands of miles away.
“I actually shipped out a painting to the nicest customer in New York,” she said. “All those paintings meant a lot to me. My paintings mostly tell stories, and when different people looked at my page they found them interesting, and decided to buy them.”
Zainab doesn’t know for sure what she will be doing in 10 years, but art is a part of her life.
“I want to keep painting in the future as well, so I will definitely keep my art page up. Even if I stop painting I will still keep my art page because I will inspire others,” Zainab said. “What inspires me to create art is nature, emotions, memories, music, and the places I travel too. I really believe that there are many things that could inspire you to create art.”
Some of that inspiration could be found at home, and for Zainab, that’s where two of her biggest supporters are found.
“I feel really proud, it is her creation,” Zainab’s mom, Atoofa said. “You know she works hard on her art. She is a very creative and talented person.”
“Her art is calming, yet creative. I can tell she expresses herself through each brush stroke on a blank canvas,” Zainab’s sister, Kulsoom said. ”As a young American Pakistani woman, it is so important for her to have a place in the world where she creates something all on her own. I am so proud of her and her ability to keep going and thrive in a small business.”
