Beginning their spring season, girls’ golf swung back into action in the Vanessa Close Memorial tournament on Friday and Saturday.

A typical team usually consists of four athletes. However, the Redhawks were short one player causing the group to use the tournament as a warm-up for the rest of the season.

Of the eight person team, athletes seniors Leslie Coyne and Anika Patel, as well as freshman Abigail Lee, were among the three to take the course.

“Our expectations were to just get back into competition,” Patel said. “We weren’t focusing too much on our scores for this tournament but instead bringing our putting strokes down.”

With the seasons changing and Texas weather remaining unpredictable, the athletes have been forced to shift their focus to other forms of practice.

“Since we have morning practices, sometimes we can’t get out on the course because it’s too cold, so we’ve been preparing with workouts,” Patel said. “If there’s no frost delay we’ll have putting practice or play the 9 hole course at Watters Creek.”
