The girls’ soccer team will take on Prosper at the nest in hopes of advancing out of the 1st round after failing to the previous two years.

Finishing with a 12-5-2 record overall, and 3rd in district, the girls team finished with 34 points on the season, which, in some districts, would be good for 1st place. However, with Frisco and Centennial barely skipping a beat and only losing three district games between them, the girls were slotted into the 3rd seed, matching them up with Prosper.

“I felt like [regular season] went well,” senior captain Jessi Long said. “At the beginning, we had a bit of a struggle finding ourselves and what kind of team we were but once we figured it out, and we really connected and played well with each other. We had some off games, but all in all, it was a good season.”

The Eagles, who come in with a 20-2 record, have won four of their last five games, and outside of a shock loss against Lovejoy, have had excellent form. They allow the 4th least goals per game in the area, only allowing .4 goals per game.

“It is a second place third place matchup,” head coach Cissy Blaisure said. Both teams have had an excellent season, both have winning records, both teams fight, they are both very strong and aggressive. I think that the matchup will be an excellent matchup for both teams.”

Strategically, the team will want to stay focused throughout the match.

“The strategy is to keep the game simple, to focus on the details and the basics, to try to win every ball that we can,” Blaisure said. “Most importantly, stay mentally focused and play through the whole 80 minutes.”

Overall, the team is determined to come out with a win, and prove that they belong amongst the top teams in the area.

“I’m glad everyone is saying we are the underdog though,” Long said. “We can surprise a lot of people in playoffs, it’s just all about taking it round by round and focusing on what’s coming next.”`
