Rhea of Sunshine: animal testing

Growing up, I always thought of animal testing as something harmless. For example, if a nail polish had a label that stated it was animal tested, I thought that someone painted a rabbit’s toenails. Which, looking back now, sounds very stupid.

However, as this topic has been brought to my attention, I think it hasn’t been talked about enough. Animal testing is the use of certain makeup, beauty, and other types of products being experimented on animals. Scientists need to find out how these products can biologically change animals, and how their behavior is affected.

A common example of this cruelty is having mice and rats inhale toxic fumes. They are usually suffocated to death. I believe that there are different ways to go about testing a particular product than killing organisms in our world.

Each and every year there are more than 110 million animals killed due to animal testing, and there isn’t really anything that anyone can do. Besides donating to charity, unless scientists chose a different way to go about their experiments, I don’t see this changing in the future.
