March 6, 2023
After several delays, the newly revamped Frisco Public Library is back open in its new location, with the facility opening its doors to the public on Saturday for the first time since Dec. 2022.
Three times larger than it’s original location at Frisco Square, the new facility offers numerous new features from self-checkout, and AR/VR holographic computers along with 93 wi-fi access points, 210 computers and 77 screens (flat, touch and projection).
“To say this library is ‘not just for books’ is an understatement,” Mayor Jeff Cheney said in an press release from the City of Frisco. “This is an incredible gathering place where all generations can learn, study, play, create, explore, and be entertained. It’s the heart and soul of our community.”
Even with the new features included in the library, community members are still able to find a space that suits their needs.
“We identified the six different types of library users in our community and designed furniture and spaces for them,” Frisco Public Library Digital Services Manager Emily Weber said. “Whether one wants to find a book and lounge, meet with a group, or focus in quiet solitude, [the library] has something for them.”
The new features are aspects that senior Annika Shetty is excited to see and utilize.
“I am looking forward to the new library,” she said. “I think the most exciting aspects of it for me are the larger spaces and increased technology being added into the building, as it makes it easier for those who want to use it as a study space.”
The new library opens at the perfect time for senior Eva Guerra.
“I am super excited about the new library,” Guerra said. “I love studying at the library because of how quiet it is, and I’m getting out of a reading slump, so I find that the opening aligns perfectly with when the time for me to get new books.”
With all the excitement regarding the opening of the library, the staff is working hard to prepare and better understand the new advancements and networks.
“We are so excited for the community to explore this space and discover all that the library has to offer.” Weber said. “It has spaces and features that are flexible and multi-use which allows us to keep growing and changing, just like the Frisco community.”
From everyone in the process feels as though the library is a reflection of the city.
“We’re thankful to Frisco voters for supporting staff’s vision by approving bonds to build this premier library,” Cheney said. “The Frisco Public Library provides a sense of pride for our entire community.”
