Biology experiments with viruses and bacteria

Biology is always experimenting in the lab, but this week, biology students get to experiment with viruses and bacteria for the first time.

“Seeing how it is how viruses can infect people is very relevant, especially in this post-COVID world,” biology teacher Richard Sabatier. “Also with bacteria seeing how antibiotics, seeing how it is they work and their pros and cons is going to be really relevant.”

By introducing these topics through a hands-on lab, students are able to gain a real-world anchor on viruses and bacteria. The labs are of particular interests for students hoping to enter the medical field after high school.

“These labs were basically the first chance for me to learn about something i’m really passionate about in a fun way,” freshman Trisha Agarwal said. “It makes me excited about how I might look into going into the medical field.”
