Cross country competed in Friday’s Ken Gaston Invitational where the heat brought upon challenges for the athletes, but failed to hinder results.
“This Friday’s race was another step in the right direction,” coach Khera Vay said. “It was a good preview of the Regional course for our varsity athletes and was challenging with the competition and heat. Overall the athletes performed well.”
The boys’ varsity team finished 29th out of 46 teams, and the girls’ varsity team finished second out of 29 teams. Freshman Samantha DeShetleter placed 29th out of 255 girls in the varsity division in only her second race of the season.
“I feel as if my performance was good for this meet in the circumstances,” DeShetleter said. “It was a lot hotter than we’ve been running in so that was a lot harder, but I think I did well.”
