Freshmen and seniors get a late start Wednesday and aren’t required to be on campus until 12:45 p.m. for the start of third period at 12:50 p.m.
The reason for the late arrival: sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT. The PSAT is an annual test to help get students ready for the SAT but it will look a lot different this year as it’s the first time the PSAT will be online.
Students will need to use a Frisco ISD Chromebook that is fully charged, and if they do not have one, one will be provided for the test.
The digital format for the test brings other changes, according to Campus Testing Coordinator Ashley Stipe.
“One of the changes to that is that the test is going to be a little bit shorter than it’s been in the past. The average student or the standard rooms will finish in about two and a half hours,” Stipe said. “So if everything goes as planned and every room starts on time, students will be dismissed by 12:15 for advisory on that day”
For almost 100 years, the PSAT and SAT have been written exams, but over the past few years, it has been transitioning into a fully virtual assessment.
Along with becoming digital, the PSAT has adjusted to a new form of questioning, with an adaptive questioning method.
Through computerized adaptive testing, the test will alter questions for students in real-time to adjust to the student’s needs.
Testing room assignments were emailed out on Sept. 29 and they are also posted in the rotunda and academic hallways.
