AP Spanish IIII teacher Amanda Bainbridge preps her students for the speaking portion of the exam.

The results are in for the National Spanish Exam with 41 students receiving a national award. This year was the first time the school part in the test which is designed to recognize student achievement in Spanish and stimulate further learning.

“Wakeland was the first school in the district to do the exam,” Spanish teacher Amanda Bainbridge said. “And last year we saw them do it so we decided to give the exam as well.”

52 students took the exam with 41 of them placing, in the four categories “oro” gold, “plata” silver, “bronce” bronze and honorable mention.

Bainbridge is hoping to continue testing the kids next year and so forth to boost their confidence and for the senior scholarships.

“A lot of the students pushed themselves to a new level of learning that they weren’t at before,” Bainbridge said. “I think that the kiss are excited about their grades and I hope that next year we will give the test for those who liked the test to continue their testing.”
